Battle-Ready: Death Korps Centaur Assault Carrier
All aboard the mud wagon! It's been a while since I held a brush, and I've been itching to paint. Even though I was in the middle of making a display board, I decided to take a short break and tackle this little guy. The Centaur is hands down my favourite vehicles from Forge World's Death Korps range, unfortunately it's been OOP for years, with no sign of re-release. So I had to resort to to take the forbidden route: recast.
The quality was a pleasant surprise, even though most parts showed significant warping. Additionally, I had underestimated the amount of cleaning that needed to be done, so the assembly took longer than I had anticipated. Painting was more straightforward. I went for a classic military green theme, reminiscent of the Imperial Armour artworks. I figured this would contrast well with the grey-blue fatigues.
I had a great time weathering this small vehicle. I kept things simple with some light chipping and standard AFV techniques. It's getting difficult to find Death Korps water-slide transfers (without buying a brand new box, that is) so I experimented with stencils for marking and numbering. I also tried out a lead white chalk pencil to make hand-written inscriptions. I'm really pleased with the results, so I'll be using it again!
